How to : Dissolve that black resin/silicon/epoxy

How can I do to dissolve that black resin/silicon/epoxy that is used in common key tags (to secure the chip and antenna) inside the plastic "case" ?

I am sure there is some specific chemical liquid mixture that can do it without damaging the antenna or the chip.

Any idea ? I believe that is what people use when they want to decapsulate a chip for analysis ?

- Acetone (for weak resins, expecially soft ones - many hours to have some effects and you need to remove often the weakened resin surface and put the resin again inside acetone)
- Paint stripper (for most hard resins - I prefere the gel formulation; this one is really quicker than acetone)
- Welder+fluxant (if the above 2 methods don't work)
- Concentrated Nitric Acid [more than 70%] (very very dangerous and toxic, use it as very last chance, in proper environment, with proper devices and with lot of precautions).

FYI - Acetone works on HID readers. But like asper said, the process is slow.

* Also, some chemicals will eat components.

Acetone did the job after 2 days.

The result is a very fine layer of plastic containing antenna+chip.
I am guessing that the resin around the antenna/chip is bit harder to remove.

But anyway, the layer is not thicker than the chip. So I am happy with the result !
