Power a Proxmark3 using Batteries?

I would like to use the proxmark3 without attaching it to the computer.

Currently everything is working as expected when I power the proxmark3 using an USB-Charger.

As a second improvement I am planning  to switch to an Alkaline or rechargeable battery pack as power source.
Can I just combine four 1.2V AA-rechargeable batteries?

Does anyone know what the minimal voltage for proper operation needed is ?
What the maximal voltage is?

iZsh, how's the broken windows client going wink

Andreas, to be safe, stay below 5.5V max and you may be able to go as low as 4V, maybe even 3V... four rechargeables will give you a range of 4 to 4.8 volts which is perfect, four primaries however will give you 6V when fully charged which may cause problems as that may exceed the max voltage of some components.

Google for Minty Boost and you shall find...

You can also acquire a 7805 voltage regulator (<1€) and then input it with anything above 5V (e.g. 4x1.5V), so you'll get pretty clean 5V output.

Re: Power a Proxmark3 using Batteries?

I tried the 4x1.2V version with more or less fresh charged Batteries - they were at 5.3V without any load attached - the Proxmark3 worked fine.
To be on the save side I will add an 7805. Thanks for the idea.

Note that 7805 requires an input of at least 3V more than the output to work properly.
I suggest to use an LM2940-5.0 or any other low dropout regulator which will only require around an adittional 0.2V on input.
Linear regulators are NOT up-down converters, so you will require that the input is above the output voltage for a reliable operation.

Regards.
