Where to get AVR microcontrollers?

Hey guys,

Where do you suggest I get AVR microcontrollers? Obviously I can go to digikey/mouser/etc, however I just need an ATtiny85 (about $2) and shipping is like $8-20 no matter where I go! I refuse to pay 4x the cost of what I'm purchasing in shipping!

I'd like this to emulate LF tags like in this post:

I'm also happy to buy a big set of different microcontrollers that I could use for different projects but I don't know of any "kits" that are sold.

Suggestions?

Sparkfun, $2 for the AVR + $3 shipping (to California) First Class Mail. Not sure of your exact location but this seems like the best bet. Otherwise, there must be some local electronics shops in your area you can drive to?

d18,

Nice! Thanks!

We have Fry's Electronics and Radio Shack -- not sure if either would have those but I'll go ahead and check.

Re: Where to get AVR microcontrollers?

Looks like the only ATtiny sparkfun has is the ATtiny13:

It only has 1K of programmable space compared to ATtiny85's 8K -- is this enough for the above link? I installed the AVR toolchain but having problems compiling -- I'll need to spend a little more time before I can get it compiled and confirm binary size.
