Extending the Antenna with electric wires

Hi,

I am beginning to learn how electronic RFID devices and antennas work, in order to better understand the PM3.

I am currently in the process of making the 125khz antenna a little bit more robust, and I guess this is the problem of a lot of people smile To do so, I want to first extend my antenna from the PM3 USB Hirose connector with some electric wires, like in the following ASCII diagram:

PROXMARK3 <-> HIROSE CONNECTOR <-> ELECTRIC WIRE ??? <-> 125khz antenna

So, I will be able to extend the antenna and put it on a solid board where it can be safe. What kind of electric wire can I use to extend the antenna? I've read that I needed Coaxial wire with 50ohm. Do I absolutely need that kind of wire, or can I take basic copper electric wires? Do I have to take care about subjects such as impedance, reasonnance, ... ???

Thanks for turning the lights on smile

Re: Extending the Antenna with electric wires

rleroy,

Sweet ASCII diagram. I believe standard enameled copper wire should do the trick. Radio shack sells a big pack for about $5 (if you live in the US). Just scrape a little off the ends to get a good connection.

But don't scrape too much -- save the endangered enamels.

Re: Extending the Antenna with electric wires

Guess I read that wrong -- you're just trying to extend.

I would try any kind of wire you have lying around, whether it be enameled copper wire or otherwise and just tune and test to see if it works before committing to anything
